Restaurants and Shopping

There is an abundance of restaurants and cafes in and around Lagos to suit every taste and budget.

First stop we would recommend is the Boavista Clubhouse. You don't have to play golf to enjoy the clubhouse menu which offers specialist sandwiches, home made burgers and local specialities. There is also an extensive children's menu and it is very reasonably priced. Open from breakfast till late at night its a great place to eat, drink and socialise. The Clubhouse now offers traditional Sunday lunch, advance booking is advisable.

The Clubhouse also has one of the best fine dinning restaurants in Lagos. The food is really excellent and there is an extensive wine list featuring Portuguese wines. As you might expect its not inexpensive but really worth a visit for that special dinner. Booking is advisable.

For some great Indian food we would recommend Pashmina which has two locations; on the front in Lagos and also in Praia da Luz, about a 15 minute drive. They are open for lunch and dinner.

For great steaks and piri piri chicken we would recommend Don Toro in Lagos, call them on 282 767 234 for bookings and directions. They also have an excellent children's menu.

For laid back dinning on the local Meia Praia beach in Logos try Linda's. They have barbeque nights that are great value and you can find them on the beach behind the marina. There are several other decent places to eat and drink in the same area.

In our opinion one of the best restaurants in Lagos is called No Patio. It actually has a lovely outside patio for dinning as the name means on the patio, and it is owned by UK chef Martyn Allen. The food is unbelievably good and the restaurant is always packed therefore booking is almost manditory but well worth it. On the expensive side but worth every euro! Tel; 282 763 777 for bookings and directions. Best taking a taxi for this one as parking is almost non existent.

Also in Lagos is the very well established Dom Sebastiao restaurant. Great seafood and a great wine list. Not inexpensive but very high quality food and service.

Henrique Restaurant is in Lagos just a few minutes walk from the main square. Consistently good food and service.

Campimar is a traditional beach restuarant serving local fare, try the huge prawns and rice, and inexpensive. With wonderful views of the beach and the surfers it is 5 minutes drive from the apartment at Praia do Porto de Mos which is marked on the free maps in the apartment.

Cachoa, a fine dining establishment is always high on the ex-pat's list for a special occassion. Once again a 5 minute drive from the apartment, call them for reservations and directions on 282 782 822.

Another fine dinning restuarant we would recommend is Vivendo on Meia Praia beach, Lagos. They offer a tasting menu with wine for around 35 Euro's which we believe offers excellent value. Call on 282 770 900 for reservations and directions. The bistro downstairs is open for lunch and the food is also excellent but less expensive.

Fortaleza da Luz has probably the best dining views on the Algarve with live music on a Thusday evening and the popular jazz lunch on a sunday. Booking recommended, 282 788 926. If you don't eat here just have some drinks to take in the views, its really worth the short drive to Luz.

Finally, if you need a BigMac fix during your holiday or the kids are screaming for a happy meal there is the ubiquitous McDonald's located in Lagos.

There is a large Intermarche supermarket 5 minutes drive from the apartment. Our local representative will explain how to get there when you arrive.
